NICU, day 10

today was one of the "down" days of being a NICU parent. Avery had a slight set back, her hands and feet were a little swollen so they did an x-ray and her lungs look hazy so they think she has a little extra fluid. They started her on lasix and hopefully that helps and is all she needs. This isn't a huge set back and so far we have been beyond lucky with Avery and her health. Every NICU journey is going to have "high" and "low" points, including ours but i know that in the end we (Phillip and myself) are going to come out of this better than ever and we will get through this together. I couldn't do this with anyone but him, he keeps me strong when i feel like falling! Tonight i got to old Avery while they fed her in her tube. It was so amazing to watch her because the minute that she realized she was getting fed she started chewing on her feeding tube. She is currently eating 5ml of breastmilk every feeding (every 3hrs) but tonight they are upping it to 6ml!!! She opened her eyes all the way to watch me while i held her today and it really made my night. Right now she has beautiful blue eyes just like Chloe! Though the best part of the visit tonight was getting to watch Phillip take her temperature and change her diaper for the first time! He was so scared of breaking her that he was kind of uncoordinated with it. Of course Avery had a poopy diaper not just pee. Overall, even with the minor setback today was a great day.
